Bill.com hires Bora Chung as SVP of product

Bill.com, the digital payments and invoicing app, has named Bora Chung its new senior vice president of product. Bill.com is one of the most popular apps among QuickBooks users for bill payments, and has been bolstering its product in recent years with artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities. Chung brings experience from eBay, Apple and PayPal to drive the payments company into the tech-enabled future in envisions.

Chung’s multiple positions at eBay most recently included chief product officer for eBay Korea, in which she ran engineering, product and user experience and interface design teams in the Asian nation. Before that, she was eBay’s vice president of payments and the vice president of new product development. Throughout these various roles, Chung gained a strong innovation and design background at a global scale. Earlier, Chung worked as a director at Apple where she led worldwide payments and financing programs for its online stores, emphasizing emerging market growth. While at PayPal, Chung held leadership roles within product management and business unit teams covering cross-border transactions, international expansion and checkout products.

In her new position at Bill.com, Chung is “especially excited about the growth potential for digital business payments,” she told Accounting Today. “Bill.com processes more than $70 billion in payments annually and is growing rapidly. As a product person, I always strive for the concept of ‘product/market fit.’ This means that a product is solving a meaningful pain point for customers. In this case, we are greatly increasing productivity, accuracy and removing significant risk for small and mid-sized businesses. And for accountants, our product, along with others in the accounting tech stack, are actually helping to transform the industry. What could be more exciting than that?”

As software in the accounting space is more and more taking advantage of advances in artificial intelligence and other new technology, providers are parallelly taking more of an interest in usability and appearance. Bill.com is no exception, and Chung has experience in user interface from her time at eBay and of course, the famously aesthetically-concerned Apple.

“At Apple, there was a cultural obsession about delightful experience and that became part of my product thinking,” Chung said. “And all three companies [I previously worked for] have been innovating at a global scale, so we will be constantly thinking about how we can help solve customers’ problems around the world.”

“As Bill.com continues scaling and growing its product offerings, Bora will add exceptional expertise and leadership to our team,” said Bill.com CEO Renė Lacerte in a statement. “Her product management skills, international experience and eye for innovating products will allow us to continue offering our customers high value solutions to their digital business payments needs.”
