Summer on the Water…

Ahhh, Summer. People will be spending more days outdoors again – on the deck, on the patio, in the pool or at the lake.

If you have, or wish you had a boat, then you might have given a thought to the changes in how leisure boats are constructed.  Once, boats were built by assembling wood, steel and other materials into a structure to which a hull was then added.  Next, boats were molded using gelcoat, fiberglass cloth and then resin.  There has been a recent, more subtle, evolution in boat building, and the original glass fibers of fiber glass has evolved into other, lighter synthetic fibers, including advanced materials like Kevlar and carbon fiber.  The fiberglass resin chemical formulas are different now too, with different performance characteristics.  Each component of a boat being built must be tested before it is even made available to the boat builder.  A materials testing lab like NSL Analytical Services has the facilities, the skills and the accreditations to perform a variety of tests for the automotive and boating industry.
