BMS hires RenRe advisor Cameron as EVP US Property Treaty

Insurance and reinsurance broking group BMS has announced the hire of David Cameron, a former advisor to RenaissanceRe, as an Executive Vice President, continuing the build-out of its U.S. Property Treaty division.

bms-logoCameron joins BMS from March 1st and will be based in the brokers’ Edina, Minnesota office, reporting to Pete Chandler, President and CEO of reinsurance division BMS Re.

He will work alongside Jeff Irvan, Chief Property Officer, and Kirk Conrad, Chief Analytics Officer, helping BMS to expand its property treaty product offerings, and building on BMS’ position in the reinsurance market.

BMS has made a number of senior appointments in the US property reinsurance broking space, most recently hiring Kevin Gordon as Senior Vice President in the Chicago office.

The company expects the U.S. property treaty reinsurance market to be a key growth area, both in the near and long term.

From 2015 to 2019, Cameron was a Senior Advisor at Bermuda based reinsurance firm Renaissance Re.

He has 30 years of reinsurance industry experience, having begun his career as a broker at E. W. Blanch in 1989, before joining Guy Carpenter in 2000 and then returning to Benfield Blanch in 2001.

Cameron stayed with Benfield and subsequently Aon Benfield for a number of years, gaining experience across most lines of business. But he is most widely recognised for his work with a range of Property Treaty clients, including stock, mutual, reciprocals, and also Lloyd’s Syndicates.

BMS Re CEO Chandler commented, “Our reinsurance operation is rapidly growing with a number of senior hires in recent months. We will continue to build out our capabilities and are resolute in our ambition to become the independent broker of choice. We are client-focused, analytics-driven, and know that exceptional talent creates outstanding results for our partners. David’s extensive experience will contribute significantly to our strategic expansion in the Property Treaty space and I am very pleased to welcome him to BMS.”

Cameron added “BMS has an exceptional reputation in the market for its data-driven, client-centric approach, and has been expanding its offering in both the US and globally. There are significant opportunities in the treaty reinsurance space and I am looking forward to working with Pete, Jeff and Kirk to provide the market with best-in-class advice and brokerage services and to help with BMS’s continued build-out.”
