Compare
products, not just prices. You buy insurance for
coverage, not just so you can get the home mortgage or car loan. Make sure your insurance will provide the amount
and type of coverage you are looking to get.
Then compare prices.
Ask
about discounts. Once you find the
coverage that meets your specific needs, ask your insurance agent what
discounts are available. Common discounts
include, full year payment, accident free for specific number of years, GPA if
you or someone in your policy is still in school and bundling policies through
the same carrier.
Fill
the holes in your coverage. Average
policies cover the basics, but to cover your needs, you may need to add extra
coverage. Making sure you have sufficient
insurance riders can save you money in case of an event.
Don’t
forget the life insurance. If you have a
spouse and/or kids, you are not too young
Life insurance is about protecting your loved ones if something
unexpected happens. Get the coverage
before it is too late to protect them.
Talk
to an independent
agent, especially if this is your first time. An independent agent who works with several insurance
carriers can help you compare like policies and know what makes the
policies different. Prices are often
lower, but having the conversation first about your insurance needs will help
the agent help you find the right product at the right price.
